Thanks to the beautiful scenery, great weather, and otherworldly atmosphere Phuket and the surrounding islands have become filming hotspots for films, documentaries and t.v. programs. We recently wrote about perhaps the most famous film to have been shot here; The Man with the Golden Gun at Koh Khao Phing Kan, but there are many more to watch. So why not settle down in your Phuket luxury villa, pop on a film and see what you can recognise!
The Beach: Starring Leonardo DiCaprio, this film about a mysterious beach was filmed on the island of Koh Phi Phi and Maya bay. The stunning beach stole the film and the success of the film was largely due to the stunning scenery.
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason: Phuket Airport and coastal scenery near Ko Panyee were used to film Bridgets ill-fated trip to Thailand.
The Killing Fields: The film was based on the horrors of the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia. The film features the French and American Embassies in Phuket Town.
Good Morning Vietnam: This 1989 film starring Robin Williams was set in Vietnam but actually most of the jungle scenes were filmed in Phuket.
Heaven and Earth: This film tells the true story of a Vietnamese village girl who survives a life of suffering and hardship during and after the Vietnam war. The film used Chinpracha House in Phuket Town.
Finally, although not a film, Snoop Lion recently released a music video featuring Rita Ora that was filmed on the beaches of Phuket – Phuket really does offer something for everyone!
